Kalkan is a town in Mediterranean Turkey. It is a historic seaside town set in one of the most beautiful locations along Turkey's Lycian Coast. Kalkan does not cater to mass tourism and remains more of a charming and traditional Turkish seaside village. Kalkan is reknowned for its scuba diving and water sports. It is a place that appeals to the more mature visitor - with no large discos or all night bars it does not draw party-minded adults or teenagers. However, there are still bars and restaurants where holiday visitors can enjoy themselves. During the tourist season there are more young people around, so there are a few bars that cater to this age group until the early hours of the morning. There are boat tours that will take visitors to Patara or Kaputaş and some will just cruise along the bay. Included in the cost of these boat tours a barbecue lunch is provided. There are over 200 restaurants in the small fishing village of Kalkan. They vary from the very basic style of restaurant that provide traditional Turkish food to much more sophisicated restaurants located in beautifully restored village homes. Many have roof terraces which makes it quite enjoyable to eat under the stars while overlooking the harbor and the lights of the village. Alternatively, visitors can dine at a trout farm in Işlamlar - a village up in the hills north of Kalkan which is usually cooler than Kalkan during the summer.
