Marmaris is a resort town in Turkey on the Mediterranean coast in the province of Muğla. Marmaris has busy beaches, tons of bars and restaurants, plenty of shopping with great bargains if you don't mind fake designer labels. Marmaris has a vibrant nightlife with a street devoted to dance music and the high tech clubbing scene. Bar Street is opposite the busy bazarre and will satisfy the most discerning clubbers with it's huge outdoor dance venues. Marmaris has much for families as well with inexpensive boat excursions that take you out on the bay and to neighbouring towns like Içmeler and Turunç with all inclusive food and drinks per day for as little as 25 YTL. Marmaris also has two water parks and local travel agents offer a range of trips to Dalyan, Fethiye, Pamukkale, Ephesus and other popular locations in Western Turkey. Another interesting trip is to Mugla, the regional capital which can be reached by frequent bus service from the Marmaris bus station (Otogar) for 12 TL. Travel time over the mountains is about 1 hour and is well worth the effort as Mugla is a real western Turkish town not affected all that much by tourism. The town of Marmaris is not just for the budget traveler as a trip to the harbour area will confirm. There you can see ocean going yachts costing millions and rub shoulders with those who can easily afford a $1000 pair of sunglasses in the exclusive upmarket harbour shops. Marmaris is primarily a resort that caters to British holiday visitors, but has become popular with Russian and other Eastern European visitors as well.
