Marmaris Turkey

Marmaris - Turkey Marmaris is a resort town in Turkey on the Mediterranean coast in the province of Muğla. Marmaris has busy beaches, tons of bars and restaurants, plenty of shopping with great bargains if you don't mind fake designer labels. Marmaris has a vibrant nightlife with a street devoted to dance music and the high tech clubbing scene. Bar Street is opposite the busy bazarre and will satisfy the most discerning clubbers with it's huge outdoor dance venues. Marmaris has much for families as well with inexpensive boat excursions that take you out on the bay and to neighbouring towns like Içmeler and Turunç with all inclusive food and drinks per day for as little as 25 YTL. Marmaris also has two water parks and local travel agents offer a range of trips to Dalyan, Fethiye, Pamukkale, Ephesus and other popular locations in Western Turkey. Another interesting trip is to Mugla, the regional capital which can be reached by frequent bus service from the Marmaris bus station (Otogar) for 12 TL. Travel time over the mountains is about 1 hour and is well worth the effort as Mugla is a real western Turkish town not affected all that much by tourism. The town of Marmaris is not just for the budget traveler as a trip to the harbour area will confirm. There you can see ocean going yachts costing millions and rub shoulders with those who can easily afford a $1000 pair of sunglasses in the exclusive upmarket harbour shops. Marmaris is primarily a resort that caters to British holiday visitors, but has become popular with Russian and other Eastern European visitors as well.

You can get flights to and from Dalaman, the nearest regional airport which is 100 KM away from Marmaris - coach transfers take an hour and a half. Dalaman Airport is served by many airlines such as Thomsonfly, Flythomascook, EasyJet and Turkish OnurAir. Transfers are easily arranged via the internet and there are frequent bus connections which correspond to the arrival of domestic flights provided by Havas costing 25 TL for a single. Havas bus tranfer times are detailed outside the airport terminal building. Tourists from the UK must buy a Turkish multiple entry visa at the point of entry costing £10 in Bank of England notes only. These visas are valid for 90 days duration.

Go on a Jeep Safari and drive around the mountains surrounding Marmaris and visit villages, waterfalls and picturesque beaches. A tour around the Peninsula of Bozburun to south of Marmaris usually combines a visit to the Kızkumu sandbar is a valueable and fun day out costing about 25YTL per person. Turkish baths - a traditional turkish bath (Hamam) with sauna, body peel, foam massage and oil massage will cost around 30YTL perperson including transport to and from the baths.

Marmaris is served by Dalaman International Airport.
