Denizli is located in southwestern Turkey, in the country's Aegean Region. Denizli is a growing industrial city in the Southwestern part of Turkey and the eastern end of the alluvial valley formed by the river Büyük Menderes, where the plain reaches an elevation of about one hundred meters. Denizli has achieved a remarkable economic development in the last decades based mainly on textile production and exports. Denizli also attracts many visitors to nearby Pamukkale which a natural formation made of travertine, a sedimentary rock on the mountainside hot spring of Pamukkale. The ancient city ruins of Hierapolis, as well as ruins of the city of Laodicea on the Lycus, the ancient metropolis of Phrygia, and Honaz which is about 10 miles west of Denizli was, in the 1st century A.D., the city of Colossae. Denizli is the commercial and transportation hub of the inland area of the southeastern Aegean region of Turkey. It is nestled against the hillside at the southern side of the plains of the Büyük Menderes River. It's a busy city partly because of nearby Pamukkale and its travertine pools but mainly because it's the main commercial hub for the agricultural produce and textiles coming from the region.
